Prop Bet Pool - Instructions
Submitting a Survey:
To participate in the pool, click “Submit Props!” under the corresponding event. From there, fill out the survey by choosing one option per question.
Consistent with the presented odds, more points are awarded for correct picks that are less likely to occur. Odds for each prop were found on common websites (DraftKings, BetMGM, CBS Sports, The Silver Bulletin, etc.).
Understanding Odds:
For questions with all positive (+) odds, the exact values were used. For example, an option with high positive odds (e.g., +800) is unlikely to happen. This would equate to an 8 to 1 payoff, or 8 points in this Prop Bets Pool. Alternatively, negative value odds (e.g., -200) is more likely, but would only equate to 0.5 points, if correct.
For choices with one (-) and one (+), options are averaged together. For example:
Will either football team miss an extra point after a touchdown?
1 - Yes (+300).........7
2 - No (-400)..........2
“No” missed extra points is more likely at -400. If you were to wager $400, you’d only collect $100, if correct. For the purpose of the pool (and removing the “Bookie Vig”), the two options were averaged to +350 and -350. Thus, the ratio of Yes to No becomes: 3.5 to 1, or in this case: 7 to 2. “Yes” is awarded more points as it is a riskier pick!
For projections, points were allocated by the inverse of each percentage.
1 - Yes (75%).........2.67
2 - No (25%)..........8.0
In the above scenario, Yes is three times more likely to occur than No. Thus, No is awarded three times the points if correct.
Payouts:
Whoever has the most points at the conclusion of each event will win the pool. For Super Bowl LVIII, 143 participants joined and a total of 30 people were paid out, ranging from $120 (1st place) to $20 (30th place)!
Entry Fee: $10 Venmo (per submission) to @ngeorge3, writing in the name of your entry in the Venmo Subject Line. $2 per submission will be removed as a “mandatory tip” to cover website expenses.
